Xbox summer showcase reportedly set for June 9 with Gears of War, Call of Duty, and more
Microsoft is reportedly aiming to hold its annual Xbox summer showcase on June 9, 2024, bringing a stacked line-up of games and announcements to viewers. The Verge reported that these plans are currently being finalized and that Microsoft is getting ready to announce a new entry into the Gears of War series at the event.
In addition, the reports says that there will be release dates for Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as well as information about the next Call of Duty title – the first to be announced and released completely under Microsoft’s tutelage since the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
The latest mainline entry into the Gears of War series was Gears 5 from 2019, with 2020’s Gears Tactics, a turn-based tactical twist on the formula, being the latest spin-off. Rumors around another Gears of War title resurfaced in March 2023 when job openings at developer The Coalition – responsible for the series since Microsoft bought the IP from Epic Games in 2014 – specified that the studio was looking for employees to work on a triple-A experience set in the franchise.
With Microsoft’s showcase date appearing to be set, this year’s season of summer broadcasts is getting some substance to it.
Ubisoft was the first big publisher to schedule its summer showcase for this year with Ubisoft Forward taking place on June 10, 2024, live from Los Angeles.
Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest 2024 is happening on June 7, kicking off an exciting time for video game fans worldwide.
E3, which traditionally took place around that time and is the reason why all of these showcases are scheduled for this period, won’t be around in 2024 – the organizers have officially thrown the towel last year after their repeated failure to bring the event back after the enforced break through the pandemic.
