Baldur's Gate 3 is a role-playing game based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop ruleset. It is the first new full mainline game in the series since 2000's Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and is coming after three years of limited early access release.
Developed and published by Larian Studios, Baldur's Gate 3 is based on D&D's 5th edition rules and features turn-based combat, unlike previous games in the series but similar to Larian's universally acclaimed game Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel Divinity: Original Sin 2.
Baldur's Gate 3 is set more than 120 years after the events of its predecessor and just a few months after the Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus tabletop adventure module, which serves as its prologue.
Much like its tabletop counterpart, Baldur's Gate 3 promises unmatched freedom in both character creation and interaction with the game's vast world for a true roleplaying experience.
Players will be able to explore Baldur's Gate 3 in both single-player and co-op multiplayer modes. Solo play allows you to create one or more characters and form a party with computer-generated characters. Co-op multiplayer features both split-screen and online co-op and sees 2 to 4 players form a party where each player controls their own character.
Crossplay on PC will be supported for players on Steam and GOG as well as between Windows and Mac systems, but when Baldur's Gate 3 launches on PS5 it will not allow for cross-platform play with PC users.
Baldur's Gate 3 releases for PC on August 3, 2023, and the PS5 version of the game is coming on September 6, 2023. An Xbox Series X|S port is aimed for a 2023 launch with no exact release date as of now.
