Louisville announces first No. 1 recruiting class
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Louisville coach Jeff Walz has announced the signings of Asia Durr, Taja Cole, Erin DeGrate, Samantha Fuehring and Brianna Jones to national letters of intent, giving the Cardinals their first top-ranked recruiting class in program history.
Walz hinted last month that Louisville's class could be its best ever. Recruiting services espnW HoopGurlz and Prospect Nation agreed in rating the Cardinals' group No. 1.
Durr, a 5-foot-10 point guard from Douglasville, Georgia, is considered the No. 1 player by Prospects Nation and No. 2 by espnW. She has played on two gold-medal-winning USA Basketball teams and averaged 24.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists as a junior at St. Pius X Catholic High School.
Cole, a 5-7 guard from Richmond, Virginia, is ranked 12th by Prospects Nation. She averaged 24.4 points per game as a junior for Lloyd C. Bird High School.
DeGrate, a 6-4 post player from Waco, Texas, is rated No. 4 at her position by ESPN. She has totaled 1,418 points, 1,032 rebounds and 276 blocks in three seasons at La Vega High School.
Fuehring, a 6-3 forward from Wanaque, New Jersey, is ranked 26th by Prospects Nation. She averaged 20.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game as a junior at Immaculate Conception High School.
All Star Girls Report rated Jones No. 33 overall. The 5-9 guard from North Babylon, New York, averaged 17.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and hit 68 3-pointers as a junior.
