Utah fires women's basketball coach Anthony Levrets

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) The University of Utah has fired women's basketball coach Anthony Levrets after five seasons.

Athletic director Chris Hill announced the move Sunday.

The team went 9-21 overall this season, with a 3-15 mark in Pac-12. The Utes were 78-87 in five seasons under Levrets. His best season came in 2012-13 when the team went 23-14 and played in the WNIT championship.

Levrets was chosen interim coach in 2010-11 after serving as an assistant since 2007 and was given the job full-time after the season.

Hill said in a statement that the program needs a ''change in direction'' and added ''our women's basketball program has achieved great success throughout its history and we are committed to its continued success.''
