LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Kansas has added North Carolina transfer guard Jessica Washington.
Washington spent two seasons with the Tar Heels. She will sit out next season and have two years of eligibility remaining. Coach Brandon Schneider said in a statement that Washington ''is a floor general with great vision and a high basketball I.Q.''
Washington averaged 7.3 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game as a sophomore. She announced in May she was leaving in pursuit of more playing time in what UNC called a mutual decision.
Washington was a McDonald's All-American and part of UNC's four-player recruiting class ranked No. 1 nationally in 2013, a class that has dissolved in two seasons.
Star Diamond DeShields transferred to Tennessee after leading UNC to an NCAA regional final as a freshman. In June, UNC leading scorer Allisha Gray transferred to South Carolina, while the last member of the class - center Stephanie Mavunga - is also pursuing a transfer but hasn't decided on where.
Gray and Mavunga sought a release after the NCAA hit UNC with five charges connected to its long-running academic fraud scandal, including one focused on the conduct of a women's basketball adviser.
Washington is the second transfer and third addition for Schneider since he took over the Jayhawks program in April.
