No. 18 Arizona State women beat SMU 64-57

DALLAS (AP) Quinn Dornstauder scored 21 points and No. 18 Arizona State picked up its first victory with a 64-57 win over SMU on Saturday.

Dornstauder was 7 of 14 from the floor and made all six of her free throws for the Sun Devils (1-1) who opened the season with a 68-64 overtime loss to now-No. 13 Kentucky after leading by 6 with less than two minutes left.

The Sun Devils had a 5-point lead with 2:46 left against SMU (1-2) then extended it to 10 points with 41 seconds left with an 8-4 run that included four free throws by Dornstauder.

The Mustangs never had the lead but tied the Sun Devils three times in the third quarter.

Elisha Davis added 15 points for Arizona State and Katie Hempen scored 13 to go over 1,000 career points.

McKenzie Adams scored 16 points to lead the Mustangs.
