COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) Freshman Shay Colley has left No. 2 South Carolina, the school saying Sunday she wants to be closer to her home in Canada.
The 5-foot-8 guard played in 11 of 12 games this season. She averaged 2.7 points and played a season-high 24 minutes in a victory over Winthrop on Dec. 13.
Colley is from Ontario and spent four seasons with the Canadian national team, competing at various levels during her career.
Colley was the only true freshman signed by the Gamecocks for this season. However, South Carolina brought in high-level ACC transfers in Kaela Davis of Georgia Tech and Allisha Gray of North Carolina, both sitting out this season.
The Gamecocks (12-0) start Southeastern Conference play Sunday against Arkansas (5-8).
