TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) After having a week off between games, Florida State started off slowly on Sunday against Clemson before getting into a rhythm in the second half.
Leading by seven at halftime, the 10th-ranked Seminoles took control in the third quarter of a 75-66 victory.
''I didn't think we were game ready and I challenged them at halftime. I thought we had a better second half,'' Florida State coach Sue Semrau said.
The Seminoles were up 37-30 in the third quarter when they scored 19 straight points over a 6:40 span to put it out of reach. Clemson committed nine turnovers during the run.
Shakayla Thomas had 17 points and Emiah Bingley added 15 for Florida State (19-4, 9-1 ACC), which tied its best start in conference play with the win. The 2014-15 and 2008-09 squads also won nine of its first 10 ACC games.
Brittany Brown added nine points and seven rebounds while Leticia Romero and Ivey Slaughter scored nine apiece.
''When we came out offensively things were flowing well but not defensively. In the second half we got them to toss the ball over to us a little bit,'' said Bingley, who tied a career high with five 3-pointers.
Danielle Edwards led Clemson with 14 points. The Tigers (4-19, 0-10 ACC) have dropped 11 straight overall and their last 26 in ACC play dating back to last season.
''I told my kids at halftime that Florida State was going to come out with an extra bounce and the turnovers got us in a hole,'' Clemson coach Audra Smith said. ''We were telegraphing our passes (in the second half) and they were waiting for it.''
Florida State's next game is a key road test at Duke on Thursday. The Seminoles have dropped their last nine at Cameron Indoor Stadium and haven't won their since 2001. All four of Florida State's losses have come away from home and all have been against ranked teams.
''We can't slouch on anyone especially with these next games coming up,'' Bingley said. ''In a few of those losses it was us that took it away from ourselves. Now we have learned and have to finish them out.''
The game was close for most of the first half with three ties and six lead changes. It was tied at 24 when Florida State closed out the half on a 9-2 run, including a 3-pointer by Bingley with four seconds remaining.
