Big Cass Released After Seven Years With WWE

Big Cass’s run with WWE has come to an abrupt end.

Big Cass’s run with WWE has come to an abrupt end.

WWE announced Tuesday in a one-sentence statement that Cass has been released from his contract.

Cass (real name William Morrissey) had been with WWE since 2011 and on the main roster since 2016, most notably as a tag team partner with Enzo Amore. He was in the middle of a feud with Enzo last July when he tore his ACL and didn’t return until this April.

WWE brass was reportedly upset with Cass last month after he disobeyed orders from producers and even Vince McMahon himself during a segment with a little person on SmackDown. The plan for the segment, Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin reported, was for Cass to knock down a little person dressed as Daniel Bryan with a big boot. Cass wanted to take it further with a series of punches, an idea shut down by backstage officials. Cass went over their heads and right to McMahon, who also squashed the idea. Cass went ahead and punched the impersonator anyway. Cass lost his match against Bryan at the Money in the Bank pay per view on Sunday night.

Once seen as a potential main-eventer in the mold of Big Show, Cass now finds himself looking for a new job.
