UCLA Basketball: Furious Mick Cronin Let Players Have It After Surrendering 94 Points To Huskies

Fair?

Your UCLA Bruins men's basketball program is limping to the finish line near the end of its 2023-24 regular season.

Most recently, the Blue and Gold fell in a 94-77 blowout defeat against the Washington Huskies on Thursday.

For a team that has prided itself on its defensive effort thus far this season, it was an embarrassing moment.

According to Ben Bolch of The Los Angeles Times, head coach Mick Cronin laid into his players postgame during a closed locker room session, as sophomore starting point guard Dylan Andrews relayed.

“Coach was delivering a big message to us,” Andrews said. “We don’t allow 90 points.”

Well, Dylan, you just did.

The club's 99.7 defensive rating ranks 90th among 362 clubs, a far cry from being the country's No. 55-ranked defensive club ahead of the Washington loss.

Individually, at least, Andrews has enjoyed a breakout second NCAA season. The 6'2" Gardena native is averaging 11.3 points on .375/.283/.830 shooting splits, 3.9 dimes, 2.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals a night across 27healthy  contests (all starts).

Andrews and the rest of his UCLA teammates will have an opportunity to redeem themselves tonight, when they square off against the Washington State University Cougars on the road.
