Michigan State Trending For 4-Star Tailback, Top 100 Prospect

The Spartans are gaining momentum in the recruitment of one of the best high school players in the country for the Class of 2024...

Michigan State is building some recruiting momentum in the 2024 cycle. The Spartans have landed six verbal commitments over the past two weeks, including one from four-star tailback Anthony Carrie out of Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day.

That was a big win on the trail for MSU running backs coach Effrem Reed, and he might just land another top prospect at his position as well.

Michigan State is trending for four-star Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea running back Jason Brown, the No. 90 overall prospect and the No. 8 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. Brown is coming off an official visit to East Lansing this past weekend.

Just days after that official visit to Michigan State, 247Sports' Spartan Tailgate insiders Justin Thind and Corey Robinson both logged "crystal ball" predictions for MSU to eventually land Brown's verbal commitment, with a "confidence level" of 5 out of 10. Due to offseason workouts and camps with his high school team, Brown's visit to MSU was the only official visit he has taken so far in his recruitment.

While Brown has not named a top group, it appears that the Spartans' biggest competition in this recruiting battle come from Oregon and Washington. Brown told 247Sports' Brandon Huffman that he would take unofficial visits with both the Ducks and Huskies at the end of July. He was a tentative commitment timeline of August, but that is not set in stone.

Crystal balls from 247Sports' Washington insider Scott Eklund and Cascadia Preps Ryland Spencer were submitted in favor of the Huskies earlier this spring. Eklund attached a "confidence level" of one on his crystal ball back on March 24, while Spencer gave attached a confidence level of eight to his pick back on April 5.

Brown has been selected to play in both the 2024 All-American Bowl in San Antonio and the 2024 Polynesian Bowl in Honolulu, two of the highest profile high school football opportunities in the country.

While this recruiting battle is far from over, Reed and Michigan State have put themselves in an excellent position to potentially land one of the most coveted high school players of the 2024 cycle. Brown's recruitment is one we're continue to monitor closely in the coming weeks and months.
