Kings’ Sasha Vezenkov Progressing in Injury Recovery

The European sharpshooter is making healthy steps towards returning to the court.

2023 EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov is looking to make his return to the court soon for the Sacramento Kings after falling victim to a grade 3 ankle sprain in the weeks before the All-Star break. Vezenkov originally sprained his ankle in late January against the Atlanta Hawks, but re-aggravated it two weeks later in a win against the Denver Nuggets on February 9th.

The Bulgarian international was slotted to miss 4-6 weeks after the injury, and a recent update has him returning soon after missing over a month. A recent update from Fox 40's Sean Cunningham says that Vezenkov was a full participant at Monday's shootaround.

Unfortunately, Kings fans will have to wait to see his return to game action as the forward isn't quite ready to take the floor against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Vezenkov is joined by fellow forward Trey Lyles on the injury report for Monday's matchup, with both players sitting out due to leg injuries.

A technical rookie to the NBA, Vezenkov came into the league with years of experience playing in the EuroLeague and spent a majority of his time there playing for Olympiacos Piraeus. The Kings have certainly missed his presence on the court, as Vezenkov was shooting 38% from three-point land before going down with an injury.

The 28-year-old is averaging 12 minutes per game in Mike Brown's rotation, averaging nearly six points off the bench. His injury came just when he was getting hot from downtown, as the six-foot-nine forward was shooting 62% from three in his last five games before injury.

For a team that has seen some shooting struggles since the All-Star break, Vezenkov's availability off the bench could be crucial for a team that's looking to make a playoff run come April.
