The Sacramento Kings could be armed to make a blockbuster soon...

Despite entering this season relying on proven success and continuity from their surprising 2022-23 campaign, the Sacramento Kings aren't quite reaching the same heights they did across their previous season. With less than 20 games to go until the postseason hit, they sit right on the edge of the Play-In Tournament with a 38-28 record.

It's not too far off from where they were at during this point last season, but it's hard to consider the Kings a strong contender to win the West with the talent surrounding them in the conference. The building blocks to put together a championship threat are present with a core of De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and Keegan Murray, but it may take an extra move to push them over the edge.

Heading into this offseason, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposes the Kings add another star into the mix on this roster, potentially in the form of a two-way wing.

"The Kings may need more firepower, someone to join forces with De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis to create a true big three. If Sacramento believes Keegan Murray can become a star, then keeping him off limits in trade talks and trying to find another guy with the pieces it has left (Kevin Huerter, Davion Mitchell, multiple first-round picks) becomes the challenge. Finding a star-level wing who can at least hit open shots and defend at a high level would help the Kings climb back to the top of the crowded West."

While the existing core in Sacramento has enough to make a strong bid for the playoffs, there's another level this roster can reach with the correct addition. If the Kings want to soon find themselves at the top of the West, they'll have to be aggressive in their pursuit of another star-quality player to bring in.

Just this season, the Kings came close to acquiring Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors in a trade deadline deal before he was finally sent to the Indiana Pacers. It shows that the front office in Sacramento is willing to push their chips in for that desired star talent, but the right opportunity has to come up to pull the trigger.

Wings like Brooklyn Nets' Mikal Bridges and Chicago Bulls' Zach LaVine have been names occasionally thrown into the mix with the Kings, but nothing too concrete. This summer could finally mark when Sacramento can find the fourth star to add to its exciting foundation if an ideal name hits the market.

Regardless of how this season ends for Sacramento, this team will be one of the most fascinating to keep an eye on in the coming months of the offseason.
