Canada is officially among the world’s very best basketball programs, having skyrocketed up the latest FIBA rankings.

On the heels of their bronze medal at the FIBA World Cup, the Canadian senior men’s national team now ranks sixth in the world, FIBA announced Friday. It’s a nine-spot jump up the ranking, the second-biggest jump of anyone in the top 10.

The United States has recaptured the top spot with Spain falling to No. 2. Germany has jumped up eight spots to No. 3 after clinching gold in the tournament. Australia fell one spot to No. 4 with Serbia, a one-spot riser, right behind the Boomers.

Latvia made the biggest jump in the top 10, jumping 22 spots thanks to their impressive World Cup. The Latvians now sit at No. 8, trailing Argentina, and ahead of France and Lithuania respectively.

For Canada, the jump up the ranking should be helpful when next summer’s Olympics roll around. There’s a far greater chance that Canada is now the top-seeded team in their group at the Paris games, meaning their path to a medal should be easier than it would have been otherwise.

South Sudan was the biggest mover in the ranking, climbing 33 spots to No. 31. Algeria, conversely, fell 28 spots, the biggest faller of any country.
