The Toronto Raptors once again have an open roster spot.

DJ Carton’s 10-day contract expired Friday night and now Toronto is back down to 14 players on their roster following the signing of Javon Freeman-Liberty to a standard contract.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Carton won’t be back with the Raptors. He nailed a three-pointer and had a stellar alley-oop pass to Gradey Dick on Friday night against the Golden State Warriors and played in 11 total minutes for Toronto over two games. The Raptors can still re-sign Carton to a second 10-day before the organization would have to sign him to a standard deal for the remainder of the season.

Toronto doesn’t have to sign anyone this season, though there is no reason not to. The organization remains well below the luxury tax threshold and can continue rifling through 10-day contracts for the remainder of the season.

The Raptors initially signed Justise Winslow and Mouhamadou Gueye off the Raptors 905 before letting their contracts expire and inking Carton to a deal.

The G League is now fairly picked over with most of the top prospects having signed NBA deals since the trade deadline.

Brandon Goodwin, a 28-year-old 6-foot point guard for the Westchester Knicks, could make sense if Toronto wants another ball handler. He leads the G League in scoring with 24.3 points per game in the regular season.

Jahmi'us Ramsey, a 22-year-old 6-foot-3 shooting guard for the Oklahoma City Blue, would give Toronto a little more developmental upside if the organization would prefer someone younger. He’s averaging 22.3 points per game while shooting 41.9% from three-point range.

The Raptors could also sign either of their two-way players Jontay Porter or Markquis Nowell to standard contracts as they did with Freeman-Liberty.
