Jaguars Rank No. 17 in Cap Space After Franchise Tag Deadline

According to OverTheCap, the Jaguars have $24,598,300 to work with in free agency and the draft.

With teams permitted to engage in legal tampering with free agents in just five days, now is the time to start looking at how much ammo teams will be entering the spending period with.

Some of the biggest cap hits of the season became somewhat official on Tuesday with the franchise tag deadline becoming official at 4 p.m., with the Jacksonville Jaguars included in the conversation due to Josh Allen's franchise tag.

With Allen's franchise tag now on the books until a long-term deal is reached, OverTheCap has the Jaguars at $24,598,300 to work with in free agency and the draft, a figure that ranks No. 17 in the NFL. A solid chunk of this will have to go toward the Jaguars' rookie class, of course.

“We’re in good cap shape right now. We’re sitting pretty good, I think we’re in the middle to upper tier of the league in terms of cap space available. We’ve got moves that we can do to create more cap space," Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said at last week's NFL Scouting Combine.

"We like the position we’re in, we like the flexibility that we have. Again, we’re not going to disclose any of our thoughts right here, but we feel good with where we’re at.”

The biggest figure on the Jaguars' cap sheet is Josh Allen's $24 million franchise tag. Baalke noted last week how the franchise tag was likely to impact the cap, though it did not seem like a deal breaker.

“Yeah, you’re always trying to get things done sooner rather than later. It helps us as we move forward in our planning, because it does affect the salary cap. But if it doesn’t get done it’s not an end-all either. We’re going to work diligently with them to try to get something done, and hopefully get it done sooner rather than later.”
