Podcast: Bold Detroit Lions Draft Strategy Explored

Could Lions target WR Keon Coleman in first round of NFL Draft?

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes has often stated that his draft strategy does not necessarily focus on plugging holes or addressing team needs.

Recall, the front office waited until the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft to address their need at wide receiver despite the unit needing an upgrade.

Detroit's clear strategy has been to identify game-changing football players who fit the culture and are able to learn concepts very quickly.

If the Lions want to make their offense elite, drafting a game-changing wideout could be just what puts the team over the top.

Florida State Seminoles wideout Keon Coleman burst onto the scene in 2023 after a successful stint at Michigan State.

Coleman possesses elite physical talents and is among the top prospects moving up many draft boards.

NFL scouts rave about his size and his ability to track the football. The 6-foot-4, 216 pound wideout has the potential to secure a significant amount of yards after the catch due to his acceleration and frame.

Adding Coleman alongside Jameson Williams, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta would make Jared Goff's life quite comfortable, especially with the emergence of running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

The latest All Lions "Bang The Table" podcast also explores Holmes' draft strategy, Jared Goff taking a hometown discount and why the organization should not shy away from high-profile, high-priced NFL free agents.
