BC Lions Sign Former Roughriders QB Jake Dolegala

For the second straight day in free agency, the BC Lions add a quarterback with Jake Dolegala joining the squad on Wednesday.

The BC Lions have made it very clear they are focused on building up the depth of their quarterbacks. On Day 2 of free agency, they signed former Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Jake Dolegala on Wednesday.

Dolegala's CFL career began in 2022 after signing with the Riders, holding down the backup quarterback role for two seasons. He has appeared in 15 games with 13 coming last year. His career stats include 2,795 yards with 12 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

The significant playing time in 2023 helped showcase that Dolegala has the skills to play the quarterback. He threw for 2,641 yards with 11 scores to nine interceptions. He added a rushing touchdown as well. Dolegala was one of three Riders quarterbacks who started, joining Trevor Harris and Mason Fine.

From 2019 through 2021, Dolegala played in the NFL for four different teams. He had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins.

It was a move Dolegala needed to make as he was most likely going to sit on the bench once again with Harris the most likely starter for Saskatchewan. He now joins a quarterback room that includes Vernon Adams Jr., who should be the favorite to start in 2024.

The Lions signed former Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Dakota Prukop on Tuesday. BC also signed defensive lineman Pete Robertson on Tuesday after producing 21 sacks in three seasons with the Riders.

Free agency began for the CFL on Tuesday.
