Saskatchewan Roughriders Hire New Coordinators

New Saskatchewan Roughriders coach Corey Mace makes his first two moves at offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, bringing Marc Mueller in and re-signing Kent Maugeri.

A new era has begun with coach Corey Mace as he starts to rebuild the coaching staff for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. His first line of business was to fill two coordinator roles.

The team announced Wednesday afternoon that they have signed Marc Mueller to be the new offensive coordinator and are bringing back Kent Maugeri to be the special teams coordinator. They club also stated that the two coaches were signed to two-year contracts along with Mace, who is going to do double-duty as defensive coordinator.

Mueller’s addition was reported earlier this week.

There are ties between Mueller and the Roughriders as his grandfather, Ron Lancaster, was the starting quarterback from 1963-78 and was coach from 1979-80. It’s a special moment for Mueller and his family to be back in Saskatchewan.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity from (president-CEO Craig Reynolds) and (general manager Jeremy O’Day), and obviously from Corey as well,” Mueller said.

“To be able to become part of the Rider organization, which has meant so much to my family and in the place where I grew up and with some really great people, it’s a great opportunity. I’m really thankful for it and I can’t wait to get to work.”

Before joining the Roughriders, Mueller had been on the coaching staff for the Calgary Stampeders since 2014. He started as a defensive assistant, moved to running backs coach and has been the quarterbacks coach since 2020. Mace and Mueller were together in Calgary when Mace was a player and an assistant coach.

Maugeri is back on the Riders coaching staff. He has been with the team since 2016, starting as a quality control coach. He transitioned to running backs coach until 2022 where he took over as the special teams coordinator and has held the position since.

Saskatchewan went 6-12 last season finishing fourth in the West. The Riders did not qualify for the playoffs and parted ways with former coach Craig Dickenson.
