Nico Iamaleava Commanding Respect From Teammates

Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava is entering his first season as the starter on Rocky Top. There are a lot of expectations that come with being a quarterback for head coach Josh Heupel, not to mention the added pressure Iamaleava carried coming out of high school. The blue-chip signal-caller got to spend his true freshman season learning before being thrust into action, but the transition period is upon us.

The Vols are having trouble even recruiting a backup quarterback in the transfer portal; everyone in the country knows who Tennessee's guy is. Offensive coordinator Joey Halzle spoke with the media on Thursday to discuss the growth he's seen in twelve months from Iamaleava.

"When he talks to guys, they listen. That’s the best compliment you can say about somebody. When you talk to guys, stop talking; they will listen to what he has to say. Similar to the last question, we have a lot of talented guys. They just haven’t played football together." - Joey Halzle on Nico Iamaleava

The Vols have a talented offensive group, but many are young players or are new to the university. Iamaleava has to get everyone on the same page in a few months if they hope to achieve their goals, and though it's early, he's done a strong job thus far.
