Tennessee Volunteers offensive tackle John Campbell Jr. has 25 starts at left tackle at the college level. However, he'll be switching over to the right side this fall.

Tennessee offensive tackle John Campbell Jr. joined the program last year after spending five seasons with the Miami Hurricanes. He made nine starts at left tackle for the Vols, bringing his career total up to 25 on the left side. While Campbell did an admirable job in his first season, he will switch to the right side this fall.

The Vols went into the transfer portal this offseason and landed LSU Tigers offensive tackle Lance Heard. He was a five-star prospect in the 2023 class and has three seasons of eligibility remaining. Heard transferred because the Tigers already have two starting-caliber offensive tackles on the roster, and he wanted playing time this fall. Tennessee could offer that, but Campbell had to make the move to right tackle. Offensive line coach Glen Elarbee met with the media on Monday and praised Campbell's maturity and performance thus far on the right side.

"Yeah, man, credit to him," Elarbee said. "That guy’s put a ton of work in, both on the field adjusting and mentally and has been a great leader while doing it. I can’t say enough good about him. Like man, it’s not – guys have done it here. It’s just, it’s not as easy as you want it to be, and if you don’t put in the time and effort, man, sometimes it’s a tougher transition. He’s been awesome, just can’t say enough good about him."
