Baylor Baseball Nabs 17 Academic All-Big 12 Selections

Bears lead league with 14 players named to first team

The Baylor Bears baseball team has a new reason to celebrate after a league-leading 17 players were named to the Academic All-Big 12 teams.

Of the 17 Bears that were selected, 14 were named to the first team, with the remaining three players being named as second-team selections.

The selections were announced by the Big 12 Conference on Thursday, June 9.

In order to be named to an Academic All-Big 12 first team, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.20 GPA or higher.

Student-athletes with a 3.00 - 3.19 GPA may be considered as second-team nominees.

The official list of Baylor baseball players on the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 first team (and their respective majors) include junior Nicolas Balsano (Finance), senior Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Sports Management), junior Cade Currington (Supply Chain Management), sophomore Chandler Freeman (Communication), sophomore Alex Gonzales (Pre-Business), junior Jared McKenzie (Marketing), sophomore Adam Muirhead (Finance), senior Jack Pineda (Marketing), junior Tre Richardson (Communication), junior Will Rigney (Risk Management & Insurance), junior Nolan Rodriguez (Political Science), sophomore Jacob Schoenvogel (Public Health), sophomore Cole Stasio (Pre-Business) and junior Beau Wimpee (Health, Kinesiology & Leisure Studies).

The three Bears on the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 second team are junior Kyle Nevin (Health, Kinesiology & Leisure Studies), junior Hambleton Oliver (Supply Chain Management) and senior Antonio Valdez (Communication).

Baylor's 17 Academic All-Big 12 selections come on the heels of a disappointing 26-28 season and the resignation of former head coach Steve Rodriguez.

A new head coach has yet to be named, and several players remain in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
