Blake Shapen, Baylor's Offense was Solid Against Oklahoma State

As demoralizing as a double-digit home loss may be, the Baylor Bears' offense gave Oklahoma State fits.

Blake Shapen played his best game of the season against Oklahoma State on Saturday. Dave Aranda and Jeff Grimes drafted up a game plan that Shapen turned into 345 passing yards. He also threw two scores.

What's more, the team totaled over 450 yards of offense and held Spencer Sanders to less than 200 yards passing. With an offense clicking at that rate and a keen hold on Mike Gundy's passing attack, that's a good recipe for victory.

Baylor lost by double-digits.

How, then, does a team play so well offensively just to lose as a favorite at home? Oklahoma State is simply a better football team than Baylor.

Granted, frequently tempting fate on fourth down and running a pitch play while backed up to your own end zone are bad. But Baylor pretty much played to its potential.

The secondary is shaky. The wide receivers aren't elite. The offensive line is not what it was last season. And Oklahoma State is just a better football team than Baylor.

That does equate to Baylor's offense being bad. Oklahoma State's defense, namely it's front seven, is solid. That's something to seriously take into account.

The play calling in this game does bear questioning. Running a pitch play while backed up to your own end zone is not a wise decision, but there's no way to gauge the offense's potential based on this one play.

Consider 450 yards of offense and 345 yards through the air a major win for Shapen and crew this week. The blueprint is there.
