Baylor Bears' RB/WR Josh Fleeks Enters Transfer Portal

Fifth year senior running back played in 43 career games for the Bears.

For an offense coach Dave Aranda has described as having "so much youth," the Baylor Bears lose a versatile, veteran player in running back/wide receiver Josh Fleeks as he will enter the transfer portal.

Fleeks is one of the most experienced Bears as he has appeared in 43 career games but has only seen action in one contest this year, coming back from injury in 2021. On September 17 against Texas State,

Fleeks got his only three rushes, totaling 27 yards, and his lone reception, which went for 45 yards.

While he has gotten more rushes than receptions this year, Fleeks primarily featured as a slot receiver in his five seasons with the Bears.

After being a highly touted recruit out of Cedar Hill (TX) High School, Fleeks' most prolific college season only garnered 25 receptions for less than 300 yards and a single touchdown as a sophomore back in 2019.

Coming into the 2022 season, the Bears had basically an open competition at running back, with several names emerging, including freshman sensation Richard Reese, but none of the emerging names was Fleeks.

In the slot, both Monaray Baldwin and Gavin Holmes have emerged as favorite targets for quarterback Blake Shapen, leaving even fewer snaps for Fleeks.

It is worth noting that Fleeks' high school success came under the tutelage of legendary Cedar Hill coach and current Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire.
