OT Sam Bjerke Commits to Cal as a Walk-on
Offensive tackle Sam Bjerke, who attends Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, announced on social media on Wednesday that he has committed to Cal as a preferred walk-on in the class of 2024.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound Bjerke also had walk-on offers from Houston and Florida International, and had offers from FCS schools Georgetown, Stony Brook and University of San Diego
.
Cal has had considerable success with walk-ons. Two of its top receivers this bast season -- Trond Grizzell and Jack Endries -- arrived at Cal as walk-ons.
Safety Ashtyn Davis, now with the New York Jets, came to Cal as a walk-on, as did running back Patrick Laird, who has played in the NFL.
Bjerke says he did not give up any sacks this past season as a senior.
