Washington State coach Mike Leach talked to reporters Tuesday evening, and he discussed the Cougars’ offensive efficiency, Cal’s stadium and animals on the football field.

Here is the video of that talk:

He began my talking about the offense the Cougars (4-4, 1-4 Pac-12) will bring to Berkeley for Saturday’s 4 p.m. game against Cal (4-4, 1-4).

The keys are running back Max Borghi and quarterback Anthony Gordon.

Leach is then asked about playing at Cal’s Memorial Stadium, which is not known as a particularly intimidating venue for visiting teams.

“Really it’s a gorgeous stadium,” Leach said, “and they’re a little off you so it’s not particularly loud, because they’re a ways off.”

Leach is then commented on the black cat that ran on the field during an NFL game.

Leach then launched into his two experiences in which animals got on the field.

One occurred when he was an assistant at Kentucky.

“Right in the middle of the game this chocolate lab goes out there, and he’s an athletic chocolate lab,” Leach said while telling the tale.

He also witnessed a fox running on the field when he was at Texas Tech.

“The best there was this fox that lived under the stadium,” Leach said. “Real athletic. Nobody can catch him.

“He runs to the edge of the stadium . . . . He goes sprinting up that entire side of the stadium. Then he sprints the full 100 yards, 100-plus, so he sprints about 120 yards right behind everybody’s head on the back row.”

Leach then finishes off the story regarding path the fox traveled to get away.

It’s unlikely an animal will get on the field at Berkeley when the Cougars come to town, but you can never tell.
