Cal Football: Bears Land 2025 Quarterback Prospect Robert McDaniel
Cal picked up a fifth commitment to its 2025 football recruiting class after quarterback Robert McDaniel of Hughson High near Modesto, California, announced on social media on Thursday that he is coming to Cal.
A 6-foot-1, 190-pounder, McDaniel passed for 2,839 yards with 33 touchdowns and just four interceptions as a junior last fall. He also ran for three TDs.
McDaniel is a consensus 3-star prospect, according to Rivals, 247Sports and On3.
Rivals rates him as the 86th-best prospect in the state but does not give him a national ranking among quarterbacks. He is 101st among California prospects, according to 247Sports, and the 68th-best QB in the country. On3 lists him as the No. 61 quarterback prospect in the country.
McDaniel had a slew of offers, including reportedly from current Pac-12 rivals Oregon State and Washington State, future ACC rival Virginia, along with Indiana, San Diego State, San Jose State, Utah State and Colorado.
According to MaxPreps, McDaniel has played 31 varsity games, including two as a freshman, and has thrown for 4,971 yards with 62 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He has five career rushing scores.
Cal’s other 2025 commits: Carter Jones, linebacker from Irvine; Kaden Cook, defensive back from Round Rock, Texas; Carter Jackson, running back from Sacramento and Jojo Solis, running back from San Bernardino.
