Clemson's defense was among the elite in the nation in 2023 and their front seven is one of the main reasons why. A huge piece of that defense announced his return on Thursday.

Barret Carter, Clemson's starting Will linebacker, announced his return via Instagram.

Barrett Carter has 166 tackles (20.5 for loss), 8.5 sacks, 12 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions in his career at Clemson / Clemson Athletics

With his return, there is now an unquestioned leader on the defensive side of football for the Tigers. Wrapping up his junior season with 59 tackles and 3 sacks, this season wasn't up to the standard that Carter has been known to play. With Jermiah Trotter Jr. leaving Clemson to take his talents to the NFL, Carter now has a chance to raise his draft stock as the most sought-after linebacker in next year’s draft.

Carter and Trotter Jr. were two of the most consistent and talented players that Clemson has seen come through their linebacker position, and having one of them back next year will be huge as Clemson will be in the spotlight in week one against Georgia in Atlanta.

Carter will also be able to help incoming 5-star Sammy Brown adjust to college ball and be a leader on a talented but young defense.
