Former Clemson Teammates Reuniting in NBA Summer League

The NBA Champs are giving a shot to a couple of familiar names. Both Aamir Simms and Hunter Tyson will play for the Nuggets this summer.

Anytime a team wins an NBA championship as selflessly as the Denver Nuggets just won it all there's a good chance they've created a culture worth wanting to play for. As we enter into the offseason the Summer League is upon us and players are getting shots with new teams. Clemson fans will recognize two name familiar names on the Nuggets summer league roster heading to Las Vegas this month.

Aamir Simms, whose last college season came in the 2020-21 campaign, is looking to make an impression and break out of the G-league into an NBA role. Simms went undrafted after averaging 13+ points his final 2 seasons at Clemson and shot 40% from 3-point range both of those years. After not being drafted, he made his way to the Knicks Summer League team where he found a spot on the Westchester Knicks following that run. Then there was a stint in Paris before returning to the US and being drafted by the Rip City Remix just last month in the G League expansion draft.

Hunter Tyson is the other Clemson player on this roster after being drafted with the #37 pick in this year's NBA Draft. Tyson experienced a breakout senior season averaging 15.3 points and 9.6 rebounds which earned him much more serious looks as a pro prospect. This is especially true when you consider the 6'8 forward shots over 40% from 3.

There's no guarantee that both Tyson and Simms will see the floor at the same time in Vegas but it would be fun to see the former teammates taking the floor together. Either way, this is a squad most Clemson fans should pay attention to.
