Colorado’s Jaylyn Sherrod signs with WNBA’s New York Liberty

The Buffaloes star signed a training camp contract with New York

From Birmingham to Boulder to the Big Apple. Colorado’s Jaylyn Sherrod did not hear her name called during Monday’s night’s WNBA Draft, but it didn’t take her long to land with a new team. Following the draft, Sherrod signed a training camp contract with the New York Liberty.

A 5-foot-7 point guard from Birmingham, Ala., Sherrod averaged a career-high 12.8 points per game last season. She also matched her career-high with 5.1 assists per contest. An All-America honorable mention for the 2023-’24 season, Sherrod was also impressive in the classroom, becoming the first Colorado player to win Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year.

During her five years in Boulder, Sherrod started 133 games to become the school’s all-time leader in starts. She also became the third player in program history to record over 1,000 points (1,483) and 600 assists (645). Her 645 career assists are second all-time to Kennedy Leonard’s 664.

“What an incredible honor to be signed by New York!” Colorado head coach JR Payne said. “Jaylyn has worked tirelessly to build herself into one of the toughest, most reliable point guards in America. I couldn’t be more proud of her because this is pure heart.”

The Liberty begin training camp on Sunday, April 28 with several guards listed on the pre-season roster including 13-year WNBA veteran Courtney Vandersloot, who led the league with 8.1 assists per game last season. New York’s first regular-season game will be Tuesday, May 14 at the Washington Mystics.
