Deion Sanders takes in "football heaven" at the Rose Bowl

Coach Prime in awe and smelling the roses at the iconic venue in Pasadena

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes landed in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon and did a walk through at the Rose Bowl. It was the first time being in the iconic venue for much of the team, including Deion Sanders, who was in awe of the "Granddaddy of them all."

The Hall of Famer walked onto the field and admitted that his players wouldn't fully understand the history of the iconic venue. Sanders never played there at any point in his career. Being there seemed like a bucket list item.

"This is unbelievable," Sanders told Well Off Media. "This is a special, special place. This is football heaven."

Sanders talked to his staff about being at the Rose Bowl for Super Bowl XXVII between the Giants and Cowboys in 1993. It was a blockbuster halftime show with Michael Jackson's only performance for the NFL. Former Bills running back O.J. Simpson was on hand for the coin toss.

Most people don't remember that it's the only Super Bowl in NFL history to be moved from the original venue. The game was originally scheduled for Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The NFL made the decision to move it to Pasadena after Arizona's refusal to make Martin Luther King Day an official state holiday in 1990.

It was the fifth time a Super Bowl was played in the Rose Bowl. A lot of history with Giants QB Phil Simms famously became the first player to say "I'm going to to Disney World" during Super Bowl XXI in Pasadena in 1987.

Colorado faces No. 23 UCLA on Saturday evening. A nationally televised broadcast on ABC at 7:30 p.m. ET.
