Gameday Prediction: Colorado at Oregon

Life comes at you fast

Not so long ago I was living in Houston, where Hurricane Harvey flooded my house and destroyed my cars. But one that survived was my 1989 Ford Bronco, which had its problems but was a good enough daily driver.

We moved out of our house and into an apartment, but we still owned the house and I still had a flooded-out pickup there. I found somebody to give me $150 for the truck and I was on my way from the apartment across town to my house in the Bronco, title in hand, to complete the transaction.

The Bronco backfired on the 610 loop and as I made my exit I saw some smoke coming out from under the hood. I pulled into the parking lot of a Kroger, shut the engine off and got out of the Bronco. A man across the parking lot yelled "that thing's on fire!" and when I looked underneath, I saw molten fiery plastic dripping down onto the parking lot.

Soon, my Bronco was completely engulfed in flame. It took the fire department like 20 minutes to get there. Meanwhile I'm standing on the sidewalk hoping they arrive before the title to that truck gets burned up. The process of putting out the fire involved busting out all the windows and literally ripping the hood off, along with the tailgate. When they were done with it, which took about a minute, my poor Bronco was little more than a pile of scrap, which I sold for $85.

Miraculously, the title survived.
