Gameday Live: UCLA beats Colorado 31-14
Gooooooood evening, we’re about a half hour from kickoff between UCLA and Colorado, which I expect will be a tight game the whole way,
The Bruins are favored but I think CU wins this one. Check back in throughout the night to see how I’m doing.
7:16 p.m.: UCLA scores a TD to go up 7-0. The quarterback scramble was a big part of that TD drive. UCLA can’t do much else. Gotta shut that down.
7:22 p.m.: Montez went so hard for Shenault that he didn’t even consider anything else. Like when a restaurant has RC Cola.
7:28 p.m.: This is the false-startingest team ever. Can’t imagine what that’s all about.
7:35 p.m.: UCLA goes up 10-0 in a game that is following all the usual beats. Colorado makes some dumb penalties on offense, gives up some early points on defense.
7:39 p.m.: Guys, I’m afraid this team isn’t very good.
7:42 p.m.: UCLA is now ahead 17-0 with 3:42 left in the first quarter. My land, this defense is awful.
7:48 p.m.: Colorado is 0-for-4 on third down.
7:49 p.m.: I’m almost impressed by how easy it is to get a first down against Colorado. It’s as though the defense is t made up of real people so much as computer-generated “players.”
7:53 p.m.: UCLA had 201 yards in the first quarter, which is — I’m told — a lot.
8:05 p.m.: Steven Montez talked this week about how he likes to run, and he ran one in for a TD to make it 17-7 UCLA midway through the second quarter.
8:31 p.m.: Laviska Shenault is once again injured. Once again, we have no indication what’s going on.
8:33 p.m.: Shenault is back in.
8:40 p.m.: Colorado has to have the dumbest offensive line in America.
Halftime update: How is CU’s offensive line like this? What in the world? The false starts are so common and so reliable that you think they must be on purpose. It just doesn’t add up. You KNOW what the count is. And yet ... like ... this isn’t one of those problems that happens to come up at the worst time. These men simply cannot remember the count. Every week. Every week it’s like this,
9:07 p.m.: Carson Wells makes his first career interception to possibly get CU back in this game early in the third.
9:22 p.m.: UCLA scores again to go up 24-7. Safe to say Colorado’s season is cooked.
9:28 p.m.: Laviska is hurt again. I do t think he’s been healthy all year, and CU has been weird about him.
9:38 p.m.: Colorado might be ... I hate to say this ... the worst team in the league.
9:40 p.m.: If Colorado is the worst team in the PAC-12, that would mean the league is pretty good at the bottom, considering CU is not THAT bad. But still: bad.
9:50 p.m.: Hello Darkness, my old friend ...
10:02 p.m.: Tony Brown makes his fifth catch of the night for the TD. That makes it 24-14 UCLA with 5:57 left. That means CU could still win.
10:08 p.m.: Bruins score again to go up 31-14 with 4:14 left. That’s gonna do it.
