Leonard Payne Jr. has decided not to try and seek an additional year of eligibility. On Thursday, he officially entered his name for consideration in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The former Fresno State transfer had a productive 2023 campaign, recording ten total tackles with three sacks, a forced fumble, three quarterback hurries, a pass breakup and even blocked a kick. Payne played in three season over five years for the Bulldogs, seeing action in three with a total of 28 games. A ridiculous stat line with 35 tackles (10.5 for a loss) and 5.5 sacks.

Payne said on Instagram, “First and foremost, I would like to thank God. Without his unwavering love, guidance, and blessings, I wouldn’t be where I am today. After that, I would like to give a special shout-out to my family and friends. You guys never gave up on me. You guys are a driving force in my life and, most importantly, gave me unconditional love and support.”

He went on to acknowledge all the Buffs fans who cheered him on during his final collegiate season. “To Buff Nation, I would like to thank you guys for all the love and support throughout the season, you guys deserve what’s coming in Boulder!”

Payne waits to see if he'll be invited to the NFL Scouting Combine. After that, Colorado will host their Pro Day in March. The 2024 NFL Draft will be held April 25-27 in Detroit, Michigan.
