A three-spot jump by the Gators highlights the most recent AP poll in terms of SEC movement. But what else happened within the conference? Let’s look.

Georgia (5-0, 2-0 SEC) 43, Tennessee (1-4, 0-2 SEC) 14.

An early scare and a late statement.

Tennessee at one point found itself winning this game 14-13 to the shock of literally everyone that cares about college football. Georgia answered shockingly fast before halftime and the rest of the game went as you would expect a Tennessee game to go.

However, I think Georgia showed for its second game in a row that the team loaded with 5-star talent is not necessarily a 5-star team right now. This team is still among college football’s best, but it is very beatable.

Missouri (4-1, 1-0 SEC) 42, Troy 10.

After an abysmal loss to Wyoming to begin the year, Missouri looks much better. A game against Troy says basically nothing, but nonetheless the Tigers have ripped off four straight.

Ole Miss (3-3, 2-1 SEC) 31, Vanderbilt (1-4, 0-3 SEC) 6.

Here’s the only takeaway from this bottom-feeder slugfest: LSU’s defense is not very good.

Here’s how I came to that, it is a bit of a transitive property-type narrative, and I get that every week and every matchup is different, but Vanderbilt played LSU a few weeks ago.

The Commodores lost, but they put up 38 points in that game. Ole Miss’s defense has been horrendous all year and held Vandy to six points. This matters with the Gators headed to Baton Rouge.

LSU (5-0, 1-0 SEC) 42, Utah State 6.

Once again, LSU played a meaningless game. I have stood by for weeks now that the Tigers are overrated. This does not mean by any stretch that they’re not a really good team. Joe Burrow is playing excellent football, Ja’Marr Chase is special.

However, we’re now five games in and they’ve play one conference game, a game in which they conceded 38 points to an atrocious Vanderbilt squad.

Again, LSU is very, very good. I just think we’re putting too much weight into that Texas win.

Here’s my overall takeaway after this week: outside of Alabama, there is not an SEC team that I see that I think UF has absolutely no shot of beating.

LSU will be extremely tough, especially in Baton Rouge at night. However, it’s certainly winnable and any resume in the conference now, Florida’s is at least comparable and perhaps better.
