Gators Set to Host Elite DL This Weekend

The Florida Gators will play host to the No. 1 defensive lineman and No. 3 overall player in the 2025 class on Saturday.

The top-ranked defender in the 2025 recruiting class, Savannah (Ga.) Christian Prep defensive lineman Elijah Griffin will travel to Gainesville on Saturday for an unofficial visit with the Gators, the standout prospect shared via X on Thursday.

Griffin has proven his worth as one of the most polished interior defensive linemen in the country for his age as a freshman and sophomore, winning on tape and the stat sheet.

He built on his impressive play in 2023, finishing with a career-best 97 tackles, 31 TFLs, 17.5 sacks, three pass breakups and an interception in 14 games for the Raiders. Griffin's polished blend of strength and athleticism to beat opposing offensive linemen catalyzed his dominance and disruptiveness.

Despite his domineering power and 6-foot-5, 285-pound frame, Griffin also displays valuable positional versatility along the defensive line. He won't be limited to an interior defensive line spot, as he's found success inside and out during his prep career, showcasing impressive get-off and speed in pursuit to suggest usage as an edge rusher in specific packages at the next level.

His skill set, if he chooses Florida for college, would work to fill several areas of need for the Gators upfront.

Newly-acquired defensive line coach from Tulane, Gerald Chatman, strives to improve the unit's talent and depth in his first recruiting campaign at UF. Griffin stands atop the assistant's board of desired prospects.

Chatman aims to leave a lasting impression on the elite trenchman during his inaugural trek to campus on Saturday as a result.

Griffin ranks as the nation's No. 1 defensive lineman and No. 3 overall player in the 2025 cycle, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.
