Georgia Tech's defense has taken another hit.

This morning, defensive end Kyle Kennard - who led the team with six sacks in the 2023-24 campaign - announced he will be entering the transfer portal.

In the twelve games of his junior season, Kennard totaled 54 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one interception and six sacks. Per PFF, he played 534 snaps and had a solid 71.6 overall grade. As the team leader in sacks the team in sacks, he provided consistent pressure off the edge and showed major progression from his sophomore campaign.

His game against South Carolina State in the second week of the 2023 season was especially dominant. Kennard had an interception, forced a fumble and recovered another all in the same game, for which he earned ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week.

With cornerback Kenan Johnson also announcing his decision to transfer and cornerback Myles Sims running out of eligibility, the Jackets defense has lost three talented defensive pieces. Kennard's presence as a pass rusher will have to be filled by fellow edge rushers Kevin Harris and Noah Collins. Considering the importance of pass rush from the edge and Kennard's impact, it's a position the Yellow Jackets could also look to add to in the transfer portal.
