The 2024 UFL season is off and running. The Birmingham Stallions, who won the USFL championship each of the last two seasons before the league merged with the XFL, are off to a 2-0 start.

Former Western Michigan defensive back A.J. Thomas did his part to help Birmingham seal a 20-13 win over the Michigan Panthers on Sunday with an interception early in the second quarter. That pick would be the first of Thomas' professional career.

At WMU from 2017 to 2021, Thomas was listed as a linebacker, playing a multifaceted role in the Bronco defense. He totaled 221tackles with three sacks, 16 TFLs, and two interceptions in college. He was not selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, but was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent. He spent nearly two seasons with the Bears, appearing in six games before being waived. He signed with Birmingham this past February.

The UFL season continues next weekend on Fox and ESPN.
