Kentucky just lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years, which has frustrated every member of Big Blue Nation.

It sounds like Coach Calipari will stick around as the head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky so now the question is how can he turn things around.

Coach Calipari had this to say about Kentucky's loss to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in the NCAA Tournament, "We're relying on freshmen too much. In those kind of games, you better have some vets."

While Kentucky was a young team, the Wildcats did have Antonio Reeves and Tre Mitchell on the team. Most really good college basketball teams have a roster full of veteran players and a few freshmen every season. Coach Calipari will likely try to get a mix of young and old players after what happened in this year's NCAA Tournament.

Coach Calipari needs to get going on looking at players in the transfer portal to hopefully help this roster get older ahead of the 2024-25 season. It seems like the freshmen in today's college basketball just aren't as dominant as we saw early in Calipari's career. Part of this is likely due to the fact that teams are getting older, making it hard to win with a young team.

Getting older could be the recipe for Kentucky returning to being a National Championship contender every season. Something needs to change, and it starts at the top, as Coach Calipari will do things differently next year.
