Former Kentucky star's chances of winning the NBA's MVP Award are increasing

Former Wildcat could be the NBA's MVP this season.

The NBA All-Star Game is quickly approaching, which means the NBA Playoffs will be here before we know it.

No college puts more talent in the NBA than the Kentucky Wildcats, and that is why former players compete for NBA awards every season. Former Kentucky players have a real shot to win the MVP and Most Improved Player Awards this season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander currently has the second-best betting odds to win the MVP Award on FanDuel Sportsbook at +240. He has the second-best odds behind only Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets. Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game this season. He is shooting 54.7% from the field and 35.9% from three on the season. He has the Thunder sitting tied for first in the Western Conference with Karl-Anthony Towns Minnesota Timberwolves and Jokic's Nuggets.

Nick Crain of Forbes has this to say about Gilgeous-Alexander, "With that in mind, year six has elevated his status around the league to new heights. While he certainly established himself as one of the top guards in the NBA last season, he’s making his case as being one of the best players in the entire league during the 2023-24 campaign."

Jokic is a player who does it all from score (26.3 ppg), rebound (12.2 rebs per game), to pass (nine assists per game), which will make it hard to beat him out for the MVP Award. Gilgeous-Alexander needs to keep scoring and put his team in a really good spot for the playoffs to have a chance.
