The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: Baylor

We take a look at some positives from the K-State/Baylor game, as well as some things that did not go well.

The Good

James Gilbert and Skylar Thompson.

The running game as a whole was held to 3.1 yards per carry, but Gilbert did his part with some tough running. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry and nearly broke 100 yards, coming 6 yards short.

Thompson broke his career mark for passing yards and battled hard throughout the game. Fans have been quick to criticize Thompson and I think he's made a couple of bad decisions here and there, but he is hardly the problem on offense.

For what it's worth, I think a lot of the issues on offense are things that can and will be corrected. Do not lose the faith, K-State nation.

The Bad

Tackling and mental mistakes on defense.

The defense has not been as dominant in the Big 12 as it was in non-conference. Tackling has been a major problem that needs to be remedied immediately, and Klieman admitted as much in the post-game. The defense is giving up 28.5 points per game, not an atrocious number against the high flying offenses from Baylor and Oklahoma State. I believe the lack of wrapping up and mental errors will be corrected very quickly.

The Ugly

The offense.

This comes as no surprise, but the offense was very poor against Baylor. It's not any one thing. Playcalling, dropped passes, run blocking, turnovers, lack of separation on routes. You can pick and choose the mistakes being made on offense right now.

We have to remember that this team is trying to execute without three of the top wide receivers from spring football: Isaiah Zuber, Hunter Rison, and Malik Knowles. It's just very difficult to operate efficiently on offense when you can't create anything on the outside.
