LSU Freshman Shawn Phillips Entering Transfer Portal

LSU center Shawn Phillips will enter the NCAA Transfer Portal after just one season in Baton Rouge. Phillips is the fifth Tiger to enter the portal after Justice Hill, Cornelious Williams, Justice Williams and Kendal Coleman announced their departures from the program as well.
Phillips played in 20 games for the Tigers in limited minutes. The freshman averaged 1.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 7.4 minutes a night.
A 7-footer with elite rim protecting ability and impressive footwork for his size, LSU loses one of their talented youngsters who showed improvement throughout his first year in Baton Rouge.
Phillips burst onto the scene during the SEC Tournament after propelling the Tigers to a first round victory over Georgia. The lengthy center scored 13 points while adding 10 rebounds, doing most of his damage down the stretch in order for LSU to take home the win.
For Head Coach Matt McMahon, his roster rebuild is underway as the Tigers continue attacking the transfer portal. Despite five players departing the program, it’ll be a busy next few weeks with LSU hosting visits while adding their fair share of players.
On Wednesday, LSU secured their first player this offseason in Vanderbilt guard Jordan Wright. The Baton Rouge native returns home to suit up for the purple and gold in his final season of college eligibility.
Along with the commitment from Wright, LSU is recruiting Tulane guard Jalen Cook heavily and are set to host two graduate transfer bigs this weekend.
Coach McMahon and his Tigers finished 2-16 in SEC play last season as they look to turn things around in year two.
