Miami’s 9-3 win over Indiana State at Mark Light Field gave Hurricane fans quite a performance to see, following already impressive outings against Penn State and Stetson to open the season.

Miami crushed four home runs, with credit to freshman Blake Cyr for two of them, followed by Edgardo Villegas and star third baseman Yohandy Morales.

Powered by this high-octane offense, the Canes led Indiana State by five runs after just three innings.

On top of Miami’s explosive offensive performance, the pitching showed up and showed out as well. Wednesday night’s starter, junior Ben Chestnutt, gave an impressive performance in his first ever start in Division I Baseball, after transferring to Miami from the College of Central Florida.

Chestnutt recorded only one earned run and two hits across his five total innings pitched, with seven strikeouts to round out a solid first career Division I start.

The great pitching performance continued in relief, with Ronaldo Gallo and freshman Alex Walsh on the mound to finish off the last parts of the game.

Gallo struck out all batters faced in the eighth inning, while Walsh earned three strikeouts in the ninth inning. Combined, Miami’s pitching totaled 16 strikeouts in the game’s entirety.

Up next for the 4-1 Miami Hurricanes will be a game against Dartmouth this Friday to begin another weekend three-game series.

Game time is set for 7pm this Friday.
