The Miami Herald reported on Sunday night that Hurricanes freshman quarterback Emory Williams suffered a compound fracture to his left arm and will be undergoing surgery on Monday.

Head coach Mario Cristobal offered an update on Williams during his weekly radio appearance on 560 WQAM.

"He's gonna be okay over time," Cristobal told Joe Rose. "Obviously, it's a significant injury. He'll be back for spring football."

Williams suffered the injury while extending the football towards the first down marker on 4th and 2 with the game on the line.

The fact that the fracture happened to his left, non-throwing arm, is a relief in terms of recovery time.

After the injury, he was replaced by former starter Tyler Van Dyke, who ended up throwing an interception later in the possession.

Having Williams back for spring is essential. Miami's quarterback room will be thin, especially since the futures for Van Dyke and Jacurri Brown are uncertain. 2024 commit Judd Anderson told me earlier this fall that he plans to enroll early, so you can expect him around. But it's possible that Anderson and Williams might be the only scholarship quarterbacks on the spring football roster if Miami hasn't found a transfer portal addition by that time.
