Miami Hurricanes add junior college offensive lineman Markel Bell

Adding an experienced offensive tackle to the 2024 roster is a boost for a Miami Hurricanes offensive line that will be losing NFL talent from the 2023 starting lineup.

Markel Bell

Size: 6-foot-8, 335 pounds

Position: Offensive Tackle

Former School: Goodman (Miss.) Holmes Community College

Recruitment: In-state programs Ole Miss and Mississippi State went after Bell, but the Canes won out. It's hard to beat the SEC programs from within their state borders.

Strengths: The experience of going against college players cannot be oversold. Bell is humungous, but he's also adept at being a pass protector who's seen numerous future college edge rushers line up in front of him.

Once Bell lays his two hands on another man's shoulder pads, it's usually all but over. He's too powerful at that point for most defenders to fend him off.

Area to Improve: Continue to work on his craft. Bell is a talented player who's already showing he has a potential NFL career ahead of him, but to get there he needs to continue to refine his technique. He's well on his way now, and that's the good news.

From the 2024 Miami Commitments and Evaluations page, here’s what AllHurricanes wrote about Bell and his reach:

During power run plays, that’s when Bell’s reach is often its most dominant. Many defenders simply could not avoid his reach, and Bell’s power took over from there. Miami beat out Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and other college football programs for Bell’s services.

Being able to nab a top-notch offensive lineman from the heart of SEC country is a coup for the Hurricanes.
