Semaj Morgan Has What It Takes To Be Key Contributor, Fan Favorite

Freshman wide receiver Semaj Morgan caught his first touchdown pass on Saturday and got a chance to speak about it afterwards.

Michigan moved to 4-0 with relative ease against Rutgers on Saturday and may have found a new regular contributor in the process. Freshman wide receiver Semaj Morgan only had two grabs for 26 yards, but one of them was a contested touchdown catch. Quarterback JJ McCarthy showed a ton of trust in the 5-10, 176-pounder, who played much bigger than that on the TD snag, and it now looks like No. 82 can be counted in any situation.

"Coach [Sherrone] Moore told me that he wasn't surprised and I said, 'Me neither.' I just want to thank God for that and hopefully I can continue to contribute to my team," Morgan said. "JJ had faith in me and my coaches had faith in me to catch the ball. I just ran the route and did what they asked me to do."

Such a simple concept, but one that paid off for Morgan on Saturday and really, since he arrived in Ann Arbor. Head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke about Morgan's ascension and sees even bigger things coming for the freshman.

"There'll be more to come from Semaj Morgan," Harbaugh said. "He's been really ascending since he got here and especially the last three or four weeks—maybe even five or six. He's making plays, he's serious about being good at football, dead serious about winning and helping the football team. Semaj has put in a lot of hard work as all of the guys have. It was great to see him make that play."

After the game, Morgan got to speak to the media for the first time and he shined in that arena as well. The youngster has a smile that lights up the room and a personality to match. With his family in the room, Morgan drew some laughs from the media throng and clearly enjoyed his time at the podium after his big day. If he continues to ascend and produce, he's going to be a fan favorite in no time.
