Video & Analysis: Shea Patterson Talks QB Run Game, Running Backs

Shea Patterson is healthy and confident after a couple of impressive wins and a bye week.

Senior quarterback Shea Patterson recently said that he's improved the most as a runner over the last couple of contests and especially over the bye week. Finally healthy, Patterson could become a bigger weapon in the run game over the next three games starting this weekend against Michigan State. The senior signal caller also gave props to the running backs and offensive line.

Brown's Breakdown

Patterson has carried the ball 61 times for just 96 yards but he has scored three touchdowns on the ground. The overall yardage is a bit skewed because of negative sack yardage but  he hasn't exactly been a lethal weapon through nine games. Per Patterson, he's going to be toting it more often over the next three weeks and that could be big for the offense.

Patterson has good quicks and is pretty slippery in the open field. He's not considered a true dual-threat runner, but he can really pick up some yardage when the opportunity is there. He's had a run of more than 10 yards in 14 of his 22 games as a Wolverine and has that legendary 81-yard scamper against the Badgers last year. He's also found pay dirt seven times a runner and is certainly good enough to keep a defense honest.

Hearing him say that he's fully healthy and feeling more confident as a runner hopefully translates to some better decisions and maybe a few more keeps on zone reads. Looking back, it sure seems like he's left some yardage on the field so being able to maximize that potential over the next three weeks will go a long way in winning three in a row.

What do you think we'll see from Patterson? How many times will he run the ball over the next three weeks? Comment below!!!
