Michigan State Baseball's Torsten Bos Names Pre Season All American

Torsten Boss Named Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American

Boss tabbed a third-team preseason Louisville Slugger All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

 

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State junior third baseman Torsten Boss has been named a third-team preseason Louisville Slugger All-American as selected by Collegiate Baseball.

Boss, an All-Big Ten and All-Mideast Region first-team selection in 2011, helped lead the Spartans to a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship after hitting .370 with seven homers and 59 RBIs.

The Lowell, Mich., product ranked among the Big Ten Top 10 leaders in 12 different statistical categories, including: sacrifice flies (first with 8), OPS (second at 1.029), slugging (second at .589), RBIs (second at 59), triples (tied for second with 5), batting (third at .370), total bases (third with 129), hits (tied for fourth at 81), on-base percentage (fifth at .436), doubles (tied for fifth at 17), home runs (tied for seventh with 7) and walks (tied for seventh with 28). Among Big Ten third baseman, he ranked first in 11 of those categories.

For his two-year career, Boss is batting .358 with 13 homers and 100 RBIs.

Boss, who was rated the No. 1 Big Ten prospect for the 2012 Major League Draft by Perfect Game, was the only Big Ten player to be named a preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball. This past summer,

Boss played in the prestigious Cape Cod League for the Cotuit Kettleers.

Michigan State, which received votes in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Top 40 Poll, opens the 2012 season against No. 11 St. John’s in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge Feb. 17 in Dunedin, Fla.
