Last week on Spartan Nation Radio, MSU ICON and current Trustee George Perles informed Spartan Nation that the board had a regular scheduled meeting for this week.

Spartan Nation has also learned from a Senior source in the MSU administration that, “MSU athletic director Mark Hollis has done all that he can do behind the scenes as far as any additional incentives or benefits for Spartan basketball and Coach Izzo. Those things have been communicated to Coach Izzo, and any reports that they are waiting for trustee board approval are false. All of the things that Mark Hollis has done do not require board action.”

According to that source, the timing of an announcement will have nothing to do with the MSU Board of Trustees physical location. This is Coach Izzo’s timeline, and his announcement to make. He (Izzo) is aware of what Mark Hollis has done additionally as it pertains to incentives and benefits through this process. The waiting now is for Coach Izzo to make public his decision.

Spartan Nation stands by what we have been reported for eight days and that is we expect Tom Izzo to return.

At this point, MSU cannot and will not do more than what they have already communicated to Izzo. The Board of Trustees departs on Wednesday for a regularly scheduled retreat. The timing of an announcement by Coach Izzo on whether or not he chooses to stay as the head coach is solely based on his informing the school of his decision.
