19 MI LB Brock Horne Recaps MSU In-School Visit

Romeo (MI) 2019linebacker Brock Horne and Michigan State have become very familiar with one another after a spring practice session where Horne made attended several practices and was recently visited in school by #5 Michigan State quarterbacks coach Brad Salem.

Horne said that when Salem stopped by his school the two talked about his recruiting process and about him attending the Michigan State Elite Camp next month so the coaching staff can take a closer look at him, which Horne said he’s excited for.

“Some of the same stuff they’ve said to me before, they need to see me move around and they want to get me at camp,” he said. “They’re excited to see me at camp and I’m very excited for that.”

Horne’s recruitment has picked up in recent months and the 6-foot-2, 210-pound inside linebacker currently holds offers from Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Toledo, Harvard and Cornell. Along with his regular visits to East Lansing, Horne has visited Iowa State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Buffalo and Michigan recently.

Those around the Michigan State program believe that Horne has been at more spring practices than any recruit, which Horne says is because he simply wants to get in face time with the coaching staff.

“They think I went to the most spring practices there,” he said. “I’m trying to get my face in front of them and make sure that they don’t forget about me because that’s kind of where I want to be.”

With his regular visits to East Lansing and the fact that he keeps in touch with Salem on a weekly basis, Horne said that his recruiting process with the Spartans has gone well and feels that he has developed a strong relationship with Salem since Michigan State began recruiting him.

“I think it’s going really well, especially since I’ve seen him so many times,” he said. “Being up at practice, he came up to my school last year, stopped in and said ‘Hi’ and then came by this year. Me and coach Salem have a very good relationship and when we see each other now, it’s kind of like old friends.”

With Horne returning to Michigan State in a little more than a month for the Elite Camp, the 3-star linebacker said that he’s been putting in work in preparation for the camp with the hopes of showing the coaching staff enough to land an offer.

“I’m doing a lot of speed and agility work and running after school,” he said. “Some of the guys get out there and we just try to get better. We just go and do some agility stuff on our own, we do some running on our own and then some lifting and getting stronger, just getting ready for the camp.”

But while he doesn’t have an offer from the Spartans as of yet, Horne’s stock continues to rise after a strong junior season and with several offers now in hand and more on the horizon, Horne admitted that the recruiting process as a whole has gotten easier for him.

“It’s definitely becoming easier, especially now because I have a few offers,” he said. “I have a place to play football when high school is over and that’s a big thing. Before, when I’d visit these schools and not every getting an offer, it was kind of wondering why and it was nerve-wracking not knowing if you’re going to have a place to play football after high school. So I guess that makes it more comfortable at this point.”
